The Daily Mail Garden has been created by John Murphy of Exclusive Landscapes and is a series of 3 'garden rooms', each based on a different colour.
This first 'room', the Victorian Kitchen, is themed yellow, with yellow brick walls, buff yorkstone walling, with light-coloured reclaimed york paving, with the upper pathway in a light tan tile. Planting is simple, with runner beans, lettuce and herbs typically associated with a kitchen garden. |
|
The second of the rooms is this 'Snug Room', which is themed around the colour orange. There's a pergola, a crazy-paved pathway and small patio. The raised beds are constructed from reclaimed grabite setts.
Planting is 'cottagey' and, as with all three of these gardens, is rather subdued by the hard landscaping. |

This final room is probably the most striking, visually. Themed around the colour red, it is an exercise in reclaimed terracotta, salvaged form a recently demolished Southport Mill.
Planting is very stylised, with topiary standards and spirals, with various grasses. While there's no denying the beauty of the hardscape, one is left wondering if this designer actually likes plants at all! |
