| Garden Layout - Spring Bulbs - Tulips
| Tulips are another essential component of the traditional English garden, even though they are normally associated with Holland. I never have much luck with them in my garden, probably beciuase they don't get enough sun, but these little beauties, Red Riding Hood, growing in a pot with a Japanese Acer never let me down. Get to around 250mm high during April |

You have to admit, though, that tulips are one of the most graceful of flowers. Beautifully elegant flowers perched atop slim, slender stalks emerging from a base of broad, thich leaves. This yellow variety grows in a pot on the patio and has a subtle green stripe to each petal. It came in a bag of odds and sods a few years back and grows quite tall, up to 600mm, flowering in mid-March. |
| This one is a favourite of Mrs Taz, who's a big fan of all things from the darker end of the purple palette. This is 'Queen of the Night', a tall tulip, some 700mm high, with these amazingly rich coloured flowers throughout April. The photo does not do it justice as it's impossible to capture the lush velvetty texture and the sheer depth of colour that has made this variety a deserved favourite with the nation's gardeners. |
