Garden Layout - Plants - Dianthus

Dianthus deltoides, aka Maiden Pinks, are one of my favourite ground cover and edging plants. I use them at the edge of beds, and also use them as a 'topping' for pots that contain spring bulbs or summer lilies. They do quite well in the patio bed, but fare less well in the heavier soil of the kitchen bed.

The variety pictured is a pink perfumed variety, of unknown name, but I also have a deep red variety, 'Brilliant Red', that is interspersed amongst them.
The mat of steely-blue foliage grows to about 50mm high, and then produces 100mm high flowers from May until the end of July.
