| Garden Layout - Spring Bulbs - Crocus
|
|
| I can never make up my mind whether I really like crocuses or not. I appreciate their colour, but they always seem to have flowers that are too big, and so flop over and look untidy. I suppose that's why I tend to use them in hanging baskets and pots and have just one drift of them in the garden itself. I like the colour mix of purple with yellow, so I tend to grow these together, although there always seem to be a few insipid white ones thrown in too. In the picture opposite, they're growing in a pot with Tete-a-Tete daffodils and a young Chaemycyparis for contrast, and look quite attractive. They look good growing in a lawn too, but that's just not feasible when you have a family to contend with and a relatively small lawn. Where they don't look quite as pretty is in a patch of bare earth, on their own, and munched to death by slugs. |
