| Garden Layout - Plants - Arenaria
| There are 2 varieties of arenaria in the garden. This one is Arenaria caespitosa, a light green, fluffy-looking ground cover plant that has delicate foliage, rarely more than 50mm high, topped with tiny white flowers in summer. I find it most useful for covering the bare soil at the base of the dwarf conifers. | ![]() |

This variety is Arenaria montana, aka, Sandwort. It grows a good bit taller than the A. caespitosa, to about 100mm high, and the mat of foliage is covered in pure white flowers from late spring onwards. It is a good spreading plant, ideal for ground cover, and quite tolerant of some shade too. |
